Ash and Dust looks at loss and the use of fire as a tool for erasure in the rural landscape of the Upper Midwest. Often spotted as plumes of smoke in the distance, the ash of these fires breaks above the seemingly unending flat expanse of farmland and disrupts the horizon. Having signaled their general location, I find myself in a race to locate the fires in the series before they either go out or finish consuming the artifacts they are used to erase. In these spaces, personal histories are burned away alongside everyday waste.
